Are you interested in working for a world top 100 University?

2019 will mark the 40th anniversary of the teaching of Korean Studies at The University of Sheffield. In celebration of this, and in response to the growing worldwide interest in Korea, we are making strategic appointments in the School of East Asian Studies to enhance and expand our excellent research and teaching in this field. We welcome applications from scholars in any discipline within the broadly defined field of Korean Studies. We particularly welcome applicants with a cross-country/region-wide interest and in the disciplines of Digital Media, Cultural Studies, Business Studies or International Relations/International Political Economy. The successful appointees will make a strong contribution to the further development of our research activities, to the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to the supervision and development of research students in cognate areas. Further information about the School and its activities can be found on its web pages at www.sheffield.ac.uk/seas.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field, an established research profile, proven teaching ability, a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, and will make a key contribution to advancing the School’s competitive position. You will be able to use Korean-language materials in your research and teaching and are expected to contribute to one of the School’s research clusters, as well as collaborate with colleagues in other research groups across the School, and more widely across the Faculty of Social Sciences and the University.

We particularly welcome scholars who:

  • have leadership qualities to actively influence the direction of the School and bring challenge to the team.
  • can teach and conduct research in Korean in addition to English, and in any discipline within the broadly defined fields of Korean Studies.
  • have cross-country/region-wide academic interests and personal experience.

We will particularly encourage applicants who can represent the School in the wider University and can promote and represent the University and the discipline nationally and internationally.

You will have:

  • an entrepreneurial approach to collaborative research and be responsive to changes in the external environment.
  • a culturally agile style with a global mind-set and can work across boundaries whether they be geographical or disciplinary.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
