The University of Aberdeen wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Modern History. The main purpose of this role is to contribute to the activities of the Research Institute of Scottish and Irish Studies, to carry out first class research, and to contribute to the full range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Modern History, with a particular focus on Scottish history in context.
The main purpose of this appointment is to carry out first-class research as well as to contribute to the wider research environment of both the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy and the university at large. Further, it is to play an active role in the Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies and to contribute to the full range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Scottish and general history. An important part of this post will be participation in the continuing development and delivery of an on-line master’s programme in Scottish heritage.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable evidence of research and/or teaching interests in the post-1750 history of Scotland in a broad context. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Scots abroad, Scotland’s relationship with Ireland, or Scotland’s role in the wider world. Applicants should have completed, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in a relevant field, have experience of teaching in higher education, and have an academic publishing profile of demonstrable excellence.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 salary scale (£40,792 - £48,676 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
