SALARY: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £30,395 to £39,609. With potential progression once in post to £42,036 a year.

The School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham is a vibrant and thriving academic community with over 60 academic and research staff, 22 Professional Services staff and over 600 students. The School has ambitious plans to grow research activity; combined with investment from the University for the new Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (opened September 2018) and Molecular Sciences Research Building (opening in 2022), the School is entering an exciting period. We seek to appoint a Technical Manager who has the energy, enthusiasm and the ability to work with confidence to support the delivery of School and College strategic objectives. The post holder will have experience of managing technical staff and leading on health and safety matters in a laboratory environment.
The post holder will provide direction and professional support within assigned areas of responsibility to effectively manage the technical activities within the School of Chemistry. This will include the management and deployment of an effective cadre of technicians to support the strategic academic aims of the school’s research and teaching.
An important aspect of the role will be to provide oversight, advice and guidance on managing and monitoring all issues relating to health and safety within a school containing a wide range of risks and hazards, ensuring compliance with legislation and College/University policy.
