Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on the cybersecurity of smart buildings, as part of the Active Building Centre project. The ABC is a national hub, involving 37 academic investigators and industrial partners from across the UK, funded through the Transforming Construction Industrial Challenge. It aims to: 'revolutionise the way the UK designs, constructs and operates buildings by realising the potential for the integration of advanced offsite manufacturing with state-of-the-art digital design. This will include the incorporation and integration of energy generation, storage, and release technologies to create Active Buildings which substantially reduce both the operational costs of buildings and their demand on the UK energy infrastructure'.
The post-holder will help establish cybersecurity foundations for the project. The work will focus on threats and threat modelling, specification of security requirements for subsequent phases of the project, and the specification and development of infrastructure to enable research into intrusion detection. You will be expected to have a good honours degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (preferably Computer Science or a discipline that has included study of quantum information) together with a PhD (or close to completion) or equivalent research experience. You should have knowledge and experience of cybersecurity research, preferably in the context of smart buildings, smart cities, or the Internet of Things and will be able to develop software (and adapt available software) to support the research.
Working as part of the ABC project, you will also be part of Sheffield’s Security of Advanced Systems Research group with Computer Science. The post is fixed term for up to two years. Candidates wishing to discuss the post should contact Professor John A Clark (firstname.lastname@example.org).
