University of Cambridge - Department of Plant Sciences

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £32,816 to £40,322
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 22nd May 2020
Closes: 22nd June 2020
Job Ref: PD23119

A position is open for an experienced postdoctoral research associate based at the OpenPlant Laboratory in Cambridge in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and directed by Prof. Jim Haseloff.

The appointee will develop a research project based on the development of new synthetic biology tools for engineering traits in the model plant Marchantia polymorpha. Work with Marchantia allows streamlined approaches to engineering genome modification, cell dynamics and morphogenetic engineering (doi: 10.1021/acssynbio.9b00511). The work will include characterisation and use of a collection of synthetic promoters derived from all transcription factor genes in the Marchantia genome. These provide a comprehensive set of markers for mapping cell interactions during development. We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to work in this area.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in plant molecular biology or synthetic biology, including a PhD in a relevant area. Experience with DNA manipulation, plant molecular biology and advanced microscopy will be advantageous.

OpenPlant is a BBSRC-EPSRC funded Synthetic Biology Research Centre.
