WMG Electrical and Energy Systems Group

The WMG Electrical and Energy Systems Group specialises in multidisciplinary research addressing the challenges of sustainable mobility that include the integration of complex electrical systems, energy storage and management and advanced propulsion. The group has an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow who possesses a successful track record gained through either an industrial or academic career, in the following areas: electrochemical engineering, mathematical modelling and collaborative working within multidisciplinary projects. It is important that candidates have good experience or a deep interest in the fields of electric vehicles, renewable energy or connected and autonomous vehicles.

Energy Storage Modelling and Ageing

The successful candidates will be able to evidence their capability in a subset of the following areas:

  • In depth knowledge of Electrochemical Energy Storage systems, including but not limited to, Lithium-ion chemistries
  • Computational chemistry methods for energy storage materials.
  • Familiar with parameterisation techniques required to populate a range of energy storage model types
  • Model development and validation using Matlab/Simulink or equivalent
  • Ability to facilitate model usage by a range of stakeholders
  • Have good experience, or a deep interest, in the fields of electric vehicles, renewable energy or connected and autonomous vehicles.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942).
