Job Summary

Imperial College’s strength in science, engineering, medicine and business, together with the new White City campus, has created a unique opportunity to expand support for cutting-edge entrepreneurship in deep science and technology, while at the same time improving understanding of the key obstacles to the successful commercialisation of such “deep tech” ventures.

The Imperial Institute for Deep Tech Entrepreneurship is a new initiative that will position Imperial as a global leader in the design and development of entrepreneurial funding models, frameworks, processes and tool necessary to commercialise Deep Tech inventions.

The successful candidate will work over the next two years to put in place a clear plan for delivering this vision; from mapping the existing entrepreneurial eco-system across Imperial to ensure the new Institute is properly positioned and embedded, to developing a detailed operational and financial plan for the new Institute, working closely with relevant departments to identify relevant funding sources (from government to philanthropy) and proactively reach out as well as bidding for grants for support.

This is an exciting and dynamic role that will involve working closely with senior colleagues from the Business School and Enterprise Division, as well as senior stakeholders from across the entrepreneurship eco-system, to create a first of its type Institute at Imperial College London.

Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a range of duties and responsibilities, including:

  • Managing the development and planning for the new Institute
  • Mapping the existing entrepreneurial eco-system and ensuring the new Institute is ideally positioned
  • Building and maintaining close working relationships with key entrepreneurial eco-system players across Imperial (from Imperial Enterprise Lab, to Advanced Hackspace, White City Incubator, Scale Space and others) to ensure maximum buy-in and support.
  • Coordinating the Institute’s involvement in deep tech entrepreneurial programmes and community initiatives on the White City campus
  • Leading on the production of grant applications and fundraising proposals.
  • Working with colleagues in Enterprise Division and external stakeholders to identify and secure commercial partnership opportunities.

Essential requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to have/demonstrate the following:

  • A good undergraduate level degree is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of current thinking and practice in the management of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship – especially deep tech
  • Excellent project and relationship management skills with strong service orientation and ability to work independently across multiple project streams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience with grant application and fund-raising process from government / private donors / commercial partners
