Founded in 1894, City, University of London is a global university committed to academic excellence with a focus on business and the professions and an enviable central London location.
City attracts around 20,000 students (over 40% at postgraduate level), from more than 150 countries and staff from over 75 countries.
In the last decade City has almost tripled the proportion of its total academic staff producing world-leading or internationally excellent research.
Led by President Professor Sir Paul Curran, City has made significant investments in its academic staff, its estate and its infrastructure and continues to work towards realising its vision of being a leading global university: it has recently agreed a new Vision & Strategy 2026.
The School of Arts & Social Sciences provides a dynamic and academically rigorous environment for students undertaking undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees. It has around 180 FTE academics, 50 Professional Services staff, and 4,000 students across its broad range of arts and social science disciplines. Annual income from tuition fees, research and enterprise is over £45M and planned to grow over the next five years by an additional £6M, to £51M based on new programme growth.
In order to support the achievement of the ambitions of the School’s Plan and of City’s Vision & Strategy 2026, The School of Arts & Social Sciences now seeks to recruit a Chief Operating Officer in order to provide leadership and support to the School. The successful candidate will provide high-level support to the Dean in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the five-year strategic plan as the School embarks on the next phase of its development.
This is an exciting opportunity to assume a high-profile, strategic leadership role and play a pivotal role in the development of the School. The successful candidate will possess outstanding strategic vision, interpersonal and communication skills; the judgement and maturity to manage complex relationships and excellent financial management acumen.
The appointed candidate will demonstrate a proactive, imaginative approach with a flair for problem solving, with the ability to negotiate, influence and persuade across a range of complex situations.
City offers a sector-leading salary, pension scheme and benefits including a comprehensive package of staff training and development.
The role is available from 30 November 2020 or earlier by negotiation.
