This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cell Biology to join the lab of Dr Fanni Gergely to study the cell division cycle. Aurora-A is an essential kinase that regulates multiple cellular processes through interactions with intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs), protein domains that do not adopt a stable three dimensional structure. Supported by a BBSRC-funded sLoLa grant, as part of a multidisciplinary collaboration, we will investigate the roles of Aurora-A-IDR interactions in the context of the cell cycle. This Postdoctoral position in Oxford will provide the experimental know-how in cell biology and mitosis for this exciting programme of research.
You should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a related area, and have experience in standard cell and molecular biology approaches including gene editing, time-lapse microscopy and protein purification. Working knowledge of basic mass-spectrometry techniques is an advantage. You will have the ability to manage your own academic and administrative activities and possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to write for publication and present research proposals and results.
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the BBSRC for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QU.
This position is graded on the University’s Grade 7 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
