The University of Westminster has been engaged in sustainable mobility research, consultancy and teaching for over 50 years, with a strong international reputation. The sustainable mobility team is located within the School of Architecture and Cities, based at our Marylebone campus, in central London. Following the successful ENUAC project bid EXperimenting with city streets to TRAnsform urban mobility (EX-TRA), we are now looking to expand this research area through the appointment of a fixed term Research Fellow.

EX-TRA is an international, transdisciplinary, action orientated research project in which the University of Westminster collaborates with the Technical University of Munich, the University of Ghent, the University of Amsterdam, and the cities of London, Amsterdam, Munich, Turin and Milan. Central to EX-TRA’s approach are transition experiments in city streets, or intentional, temporary changes in street use, regulation and/or form, aimed at exploring systemic change towards a ‘post-car’ city.

The postholder will work on these new projects with a dynamic, trans-disciplinary research team, led by Dr. Enrica Papa, reader in Transport Planning. The position requires individual and collaborative research, contributions to research bids, co-authored publication work and activities to promote impact and extend the team’s research portfolio, with a high standard of written and spoken English.

The position requires experience with research on urban mobility, urban planning, and urban experimentation, experience with research involving stakeholders from practice. The post holder must also be proficient in qualitative data management; ethnographic and auto-ethnographic studies. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate ability and experience in facilitating meetings and other activities aimed at knowledge transfer and dissemination.

Working knowledge of the Dutch and German languages is appreciated as well as experience with using Geographical Information System.

It is likely that the initial period in post would be undertaken remotely. The ATM team uses remote tools extensively for its research collaborations in any case, such that issues are not foreseen with the postholder initially working remotely.
