The Walter Scott Research Centre is now working on a ten-volume edition of Walter Scott’s Poetry and has recently received AHRC funding to produce 5 volumes in this series. It is seeking to appoint a research fellow to undertake tasks in support of the completion of these volumes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of world-class editors.
The post is located within the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture. The successful candidate will report to Professor Alison Lumsden and will work with her and the volume editors.
Opportunities to teach within the English program may be available as part of this post.
The candidate will have a doctoral degree in a topic relevant to Scott Studies and/or textual editing. They will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and a meticulous approach are essential. While some experience of working on a scholarly edition is desirable it is not required. The candidate must, however, have a willingness to learn new skills and will be required to follow the editorial procedures that underpin the project.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6, £34,304- £40,927 pro rata per annum and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
As this post is funded by the AHRC it is available until 31st August 2026.

This role is based in the UK and as such the successful candidate will be required to live and work in the UK.
