The Curriculum Leader will provide the academic team leadership; contribute to the delivery of excellent student outcomes; quality assurance and enhancement; and curriculum innovation which embeds strong collaborative working.

You will be responsible for supporting the Head of Subject with timetabling, observations of learning and teaching, probation reviews, 1-2-1s for academic tutors. In addition to academic management duties, you will also have accountability for student outcomes across defined groups of modules.

This role has a teaching commitment of 16 hours per week, before any additional duties, such as module coordination is remitted.


  • Maintain academic oversight of the delivery, assessment and monitoring of a cognate group of modules within the pathway.
  • Support the Head of Subject with the recruitment of academic staff.
  • Provide direct line management support to Academic Tutors including providing feedback on their performance.
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff and represent the college at appropriate events and meetings.
  • Contribute to programme senior management meetings as determined by the Head of Subject to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Work closely with Module Coordinators and University’s departments to maintain the currency and fitness for purpose of modules to meet the needs of students progressing to their respective university degree programmes, and to maximise progression.
  • Work closely with Module Coordinators and ELTC to ensure that appropriate, current and relevant subject, academic skills and language development are integrated and embedded in the programme, aligned with the partnership articulation.
  • Contribute to the delivery and assessment of provision and provide tutorial support to a specified number of students through the academic year.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the college virtual learning environment (VLE).
  • Act as the lead to the pathway team and supervise academic standards, the quality of learning opportunities, the accuracy and completeness of published information, ensuring that they are managed appropriately and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the College.
  • Supervise consistency of delivery and standards across the subject provision, in line with the Study Group Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy.
  • Support with module reviews, academic development and appropriate diversification of the provision (including revision of modules and the development of new modules) in a given subject pathway.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the Curriculum Board and implementation of Subject Student Outcomes Plans (SSOPs).
  • Liaise with colleagues within the college and across the network to share good practice and benefit from the dissemination of developments.


  • Experience of delivering ‘good or better’ teaching and learning.
  • A relevant first degree, and preferably a teaching qualification
  • A postgraduate qualification within the relevant subject area
  • Experience of observing learning & teaching (this could include peer evaluative observations).
  • Experience of module coordination and holding module meetings.
  • Experience, and a positive track record, of academic management and quality assurance in UK further and/or higher education.
  • Experience of providing feedback to another person about their performance, which achieved a positive improvement.
