Plessey Semiconductors have vacancies for experienced Process Engineers to work at our high technology manufacturing and R&D site in Plymouth. We are world leaders in the exciting new field of micro LED display technology and are developing the products and processes needed for the emerging virtual and augmented reality display markets. There are vacancies in the Process Architecture Team in both CVD and PVD.  The successful candidates will have experience working in the relevant field in a production or R&D environment.

CVD Engineer - The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential:

  • Experience in a semiconductor environment (industry or academic)
  • Experience in developing and optimizing dielectric thin film deposition techniques based on Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD)
  • Experience in thin films measurements techniques
  • A degree in a STEM related subject.

PVD Engineer – The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential:

  • Experience in a semiconductor environment (industry or academic)
  • Experience in optimising and developing semiconductor thin film deposition techniques such as Sputter, e-beam, Ion beam deposition and to optimise recipes at sub-micro level coatings
  • Experience in thin films measurements techniques
  • A degree in a STEM related subject.

In addition to the above, it would be desirable for both CVD and PVD engineers to demonstrate the following:

Desirable:

  • Experience of other processing techniques used in semiconductor industry which includes but not limited to photolithography (stepper and mask aligner), etching (RIE, ICP), chemical processes and metrology such as SEM.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics
  • Understanding of micro LED architectures, LED performance matrix and measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical analysis techniques (Minitab or JMP).
  • Working knowledge of CAM systems and SPC (PROMIS preferred)
  • Experience of risk analysis and design review processes
  • PhD level qualification.

You will be part of a team developing a range of novel micro LED architectures. You will be mainly involved in the development of thin film deposition of dielectric material in submicron features as well as full micro LED architecture. You will be expected to spend  approximately 70% of your time in the clean room for recipe development in liaison with process engineers and tool owners.  The rest of the time will be for planning, analysing the characterization data and preparing/delivering presentations to the Team.

You will also be expected to get involved in generating novel ideas related to micro LED architecture and processing leading to patents generation.

In addition to technical capabilities, you will need good communication skills and team work as the role requires interaction with professionals from both inside and outside the company together with mentoring more junior engineers and graduates.
