Placement Year and Work Experience Adviser

The Placement Year and Work Experience Adviser role is a newly created post to support our placement year students. The role will, moving forward, also assist in supporting those students looking for work experience as part of their degree. The University currently offers placement year opportunities across a number of programmes and routes. This covers students enrolling to a programme with a placement year as part of the programme or students opting-in to a placement year during their studies. The post holder will be responsible for leading the development of the programme with indicative (but not exhaustive) duties detailed below. 

This role sits within the Employer Engagement and Student Opportunities Team and in the wider Student Success and Widening Participations Team.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide information and advice to students to enable them to make effective decisions about their placement year opportunities and support them in the applications process. They will also take the lead on the development and delivery of a programme of workshops and e-learning to prepare YSJ students for a placement year.

In order to increase engagement, the post holder will lead on the marketing and promotion of placement year, and support academic staff in promoting these opportunities.

The effective management of relationships and communication channels between students, Placement Leads and Subject Directors, and external stakeholders is key to success in this role. The post holder will develop administrative procedures and systems to provide high level administrative support to academics, students and external stakeholders in relation to placement year and work experience.

Key requirements

We are ideally looking for someone who has experience of working within HE, supporting students who are undertaking a placement year or work experience as part of their degree. You will have a good understanding of the current graduate labour market and how a placement year can positively influence a student securing a graduate job. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of how to use technology to produce engaging e-learning activities to support students to secure a placement year or work experience opportunity. The ability to work both as part of a team and independently, in order to meet deadlines is essential.
