Based at the Machrihanish Environment Research Laboratory (MERL), Machrihanish, Argyll, the post holder will be primarily responsible for the provision of animal care and welfare as Animal Technician and Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO). Providing day-to-day management of the animal facility delivering technical and scientific support and animal care and welfare in compliance with all relevant legislation.
The post holder will also act as the Lead NACWO for the Institute of Aquaculture and will report to the Institute’s Executive team. The Lead NACWO will have line management responsibilities of the other Institute NACWO’s to provide advice in matters of animal welfare and support them in raising animal welfare concerns with the Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS) and/or the Deputy Establishment Licence Holder as appropriate. The Lead NACWO will support the development of consistent practices and procedures across all sites to ensure robust and resilient welfare and care is achieved.
