We are seeking to recruit a number of exceptional contracting professionals to join our team.
This is a great opportunity to join the research contracts team of a world class UK university. UCL is ranked 16th in the world according to the most recent Timed Higher Education Wold University Rankings and also retains its rank as 7th in the world for the second year running as indicated by Web of Science’s Essential Science Indicators (ESI) citations data. Moreover, UCL’s research activity – a primary means through which we generate public benefit – continues to grow. In 2019-20 UCL had its most successful year ever for new research awards, with £520 million in new grants won. Between April 1 2019 and March 31 2020 UCL received the most UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding of any higher education institution for the second year in a row, securing 198 research and innovation grants.
Given our success, we are expanding our Contracting team and are looking to recruit Contracts Officers to be part of the growing Research team at the University to provide contractual and governance support.
You will work closely with the Heads of Contracts and Contracts Managers support our team develop high quality contractual arrangements and provision of legal contracting advice to UCL’s academic staff. The focus of your work will be to draft and negotiate Material Transfer Agreements, though you will be expected to work on other research agreements from time to time. We work with a broad base of funders and collaborators from industry, Research Councils, government departments, charities, NGOs, international agencies and other higher education institutions. You will be responsible for liaising with internal and external parties, managing and maintaining agreement records, and other general contracts office administrative tasks.
With excellent verbal and written communication skills you will build close working relationships with members of other UCL department administrators and third party’s contracting offices. You will be self-motivated to monitor and chase up matters as necessary and to identify and escalate matters when appropriate.
You will need:
Ability to prioritise and manage a large, complex workload, taking ownership of tasks, managing and responding to shifting priorities, working independently and progressing numerous contracts at any one time. Tact, diplomacy and the ability to influence and persuade a broad range of individuals.
