We are looking to recruit an innovative Lecturer in Drama to work within our dynamic theatre team, in partnership with Theatre Royal Plymouth.  You will be expected to teach across the undergraduate and postgraduate theatre curriculum, which includes Drama, Acting and Musical Theatre degrees.  In line with the pioneering curriculum of our new School of Society and Culture, we are actively seeking candidates with professional and teaching expertise in one or more of these areas: digital and/or virtual production, performance for recorded media, applied and/or contemporary performance politics and practice.

Based within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, the School of Society and Culture is a place of progression in a progressive world. The School brings together subjects and research that are among the most relevant in today’s society; subjects that play a crucial role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing social issues and that require skilled, creative and forward-thinking individuals capable of shaping the future. The School has created a learning environment that brings together social and political sciences, law, performing arts and humanities to empower students to personalise their journey, expand their thinking, realise their ambitions and pursue their passions. The School is home to researchers who demonstrate the crucial role the social sciences, law, humanities and performing arts play in all aspects of our lives and their importance in shaping the future.

You will contribute to the department's vibrant research culture and group, and will have a strong research track record (appropriate to career stage).  All applicants will need to demonstrate that they have excellent interpersonal skills and will work effectively both independently and as part of a team with colleagues, students, and internal, and external associates.

The post requires:

  • A first degree in drama, theatre and/or performance subject;
  • A PhD in drama, theatre and/or performance related subject;
  • Distinct research specialism and a strong research track record (appropriate to career stage);
  • Ability to teach across the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum;
  • Experience of academic administration responsibilities;
  • Excellent academic and pastoral support for students;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team and to take initiative.
