Introduction
Queen Mary University of London - 7th in the UK for the quality of research outputs - is seeking an expert in research impact to provide inspiring leadership and build on the University’s success as a leading research institution with a strong social purpose.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
The role
To build on the success of REF 21, the Research Impact Manager will be a specialist practitioner in research impact and will work closely with the Executive Officer for Research and Innovation (EO R&I), Deputy Vice-Principals (DVPs) for Impact, Faculty Deputy Deans for Research Impact (DDRIs) and Queen Mary researchers, to advise, promote and embed a culture which values, prioritises and evaluates cross-institutional research impact. The post manages a team of Impact Engagement Officers and an IAA Officer to provide joined up and high-quality impact and knowledge exchange support across the university. You will engage and collaborate with a network of other specialist staff supporting impact and knowledge exchange, including Business Development, Queen Mary Innovations (Technology Transfer Team), the Centre for Public Engagement and those supporting research, impact and knowledge exchange within the Faculties.
Who we are looking for
Candidates should bring experience of Research Impact and/or Knowledge Exchange cultures and processes in a research-led UK institution, with knowledge of REF and KEF submissions. You should have a wide-ranging knowledge of research impact across different academic disciplines, experience of working cross-institutionally with a range of stakeholders and have a significant track record of successfully writing impact plans, case studies and wider communications.
Candidates must demonstrate the confidence and ability to effectively manage, develop and grow a high quality and high performing team and use their knowledge and expertise to skilfully communicate, influence and manage professional relationships, especially with senior leaders and stakeholders across the university to meet ambitious institutional goals.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
