The Department of Law wishes to recruit a full-time Research Fellow to work within a team on the Horizon 2020 project on Migration and Security ITFLOWS. ITFLOWS involves 13 partners from all over the world aiming at providing accurate predictions and adequate management solutions of migration flows in the European Union in the phases of reception, relocation, settlement and integration of migration.

The post will entail working on a policy brief and recommendations on ‘good practices and asylum policy commitments according to human rights’; managing the successful compilation and completion of multiple policy briefs and recommendations authored by other partners based on the work done in ITFLOWS in the last 22 months; project-managing; reviewing deliverables; and identifying gaps and weaknesses and finding solutions on the project. It is an amazing opportunity for an expert on migration and asylum to contribute to the knowledge and practical solutions in this area while improving considerably their skills and networks.

The successful candidate will have deep knowledge on migration, refugee issues and human rights considerations, hopefully in the context of the current emphasis on securitization. Understanding of how international actors on migration interact is essential. Some knowledge of migration and technological tools is desirable. Experience in managing migration is also desirable. We expect the successful candidate to work independently on this project and, when need be, as a team-player; to have a proactive role within the project; to raise the profile of the project; to have excellent organisational skills; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment; and ability to work within clear deadlines.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD in an appropriate Discipline (Law or Politics or European studies or Social Studies relating to European and/or international migration or/and asylum frameworks) or relevant experience and expertise. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.

The successful candidate will have to be based in the UK, but does not have to relocate to Uxbridge and does not have to be physically at the university. Some meetings will take place at Brunel University London. If the candidate decides not to be based in Brunel University London, the London allowance will not apply.

Informal enquiries regarding this post should be made to Professor Alexandra Xanthaki, Principal Investigator, by email to: Alexandra.xanthaki@brunel.ac.uk

Closing date for applications:  Tuesday 23rd August 2022 (Midnight)
