Job description

The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM) has an exciting opportunity for a Campus Technical Operations Manager for the Guy’s and Waterloo Campus to join the technical services leadership team. FoLSM is an ambitious and forward-thinking Faculty, with an outstanding reputation across a range of disciplines in Life Sciences and Medicine. The post holder will be an experienced and professional technical manager with operational knowledge of support for research laboratories, facilities and buildings, delivering complex infrastructure and space utilisation projects, and managing and supporting a team of technical staff.

The post will be responsible for overseeing the technical support for FoLSM activities across the Waterloo and Guys Campuses including areas in leased or embedded space. The post will be directly responsible for a team of 3 technicians and will support Technical Managers across the Guys and Waterloo Campuses. The post holder is responsible to the Faculty’s Head of Technical Services and will liaise with The Space Leads for Guys and Waterloo, School Technical Managers, Estates and Facilities, NHS staff and Bouygues staff to ensure that all Faculty research and education activities on these campuses run smoothly.

The post holder will play a key role in co-ordinating activities between Bouygues, KCL Estates and Facilities, GSTT staff and building occupiers to support the smooth operation of research and education activities and minimise disruption. In particular, the role will be expected to support the smooth transition of multiple PFI buildings to KCL responsibility. The post holder will be responsible for Faculty space and expected to promote effective space utilisation, supporting refurbishments and relocations as required. The post holder will provide operational support for research facilities, such as ultra-low freezer monitoring. They will be expected to have significant experience of working in varied research environments, with an understanding of how successful research facilities function and a desire to seek continuous improvements in processes to deliver successful outcomes. The post-holder will support cross-Faculty initiatives to provide consistency and consolidation between individual Schools and departments, enhance H&S compliance, increase sustainability and enhance the research environment. They will seek to co-ordinate, develop and implement improvements in operations to support these activities. The individual should be committed to supporting technical staff development.

This is an excellent opportunity to support the delivery of a wide-range of research and education activities, to co-ordinate activities across multiple buildings and campuses and drive process improvements to achieve better outcomes across FoLSM and to inspire and support an enthusiastic and diverse team of technicians.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract

This is a full-time - 100% full time equivalent
