Assessment Manager (Student Data)

The University of Law

Location: United Kingdom
Salary: £40,000
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 29th September 2022
Closes: 16th October 2022
Job Ref: REQ001338

The Role

The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education. With an alumni network in excess of 71,000, we’ve trained more practising lawyers in the UK than anyone else.

As our student numbers increase and we continue to diversify our programmes and portfolio, we are now looking for a high calibre, credible leader to join our newly formed Assessment Office team on a permanent basis. The operational delivery of all assessment activity – exams, oral assessments, coursework, and modelling those assessments in our student records system – has been centralised in a new single Assessment Office, under a new Director. As Assessment Manager (Student Data) you will be leading established and experienced colleagues in a new structure, and new operational environment.

We are looking for a Higher Education professional with a genuine passion for quality and excellence, with a high degree of technical capability, is able to lead within a matrix system, and can build relationships with a variety of colleagues across our business.

This role is suitable for a technically capable colleague with experience of student records management in Higher Education. You will be confident to ask questions and support the delivery of substantial changes in process, policy, and systems.  Above all you will be a strong leader who is able to bring their team with them on change projects large and small. Our student records system is Unit-E but you do not need specific experience in this system – previous experience in any of the large student records systems will put you in good stead to work with Unit-E. We are a Microsoft house and, as well as the standard packages, all teams have access to build their own automations in MS Automate as well as making use of RPA systems operated by our central IT Service. The post reports to the Head of Assessment Operations (Student Progression Systems).

Appointees will be offered a Dual Location contract which supports a mix of homeworking and working from one of our many UK campus locations.

As the Assessment Manager (Student Data) at The University of Law, you will:

  • Be responsible for the student record both pre- and post-assessment, ensuring, via your teams, that students are correctly registered, any adjustments for additional needs are correctly recorded, and that students are able to take resits at the next available opportunity;
  • Monitor the progress of marking, moderation, and External Examination and, via your teams and relationships across the University, take action to correct any potential departure from deadlines,
  • Standardise the processes, systems, and data storage across our many locations and programmes.  You will introduce standard operational calendars which enable effective planning of resource, and monitoring of progress towards key deadlines;
  • Lead workstreams within the Assessment Review Project – a University-wide project Chaired by the Provost which is transforming core policy, process, and systems to enable an exceptional student assessment experience.
  • Promote a culture of partnership working between your UK teams and their offshore colleagues.

 We are looking for individuals who can:

  • Bring an understanding of Higher Education student records management, and apply it in a growing, complex, multi-intake University;
  • Use technical expertise to get the most out of systems and processes;
  • Use leadership skills, communication skills, and ability to influence/persuade to drive forward change;
  • Implement process improvement in both project and continuous improvement formats;
  • Work in a matrix system to lead their own teams and other cross-Assessment Office groupings/teams.
