Lecturer in Creative and Cultural Industries

Kingston University - School of Creative & Cultural Industries

Location: Kingston upon Thames
Salary: £41,131 to £44,694 per annum
Hours: Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 22nd November 2022
Closes: 11th December 2022
Job Ref: 506707

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Lecturer to join the rapidly growing Creative Industries department at the Kingston School of Art - where you will have the opportunity teach and inspire a diverse group of young people who hold wildly different creative and professional ambitions.

You’ll join a close-knit group of practitioner/academics who are behind a varied programme of research-led teaching, workshops, seminars and forward-thinking studies that aim to prepare students to successfully find, or create, opportunities within the fast-changing creative industries sectors, with a focus on art direction, design marketing, and events and experiences design.

We have 2 part-time roles available. The first role is for a technology-focused designer with substantial experience working as a visual designer (digital and/or editorial) for a brand or agency and an interest in how technologies like AI, VR and XR are changing the visual communications landscape and/or you may have been teaching these skills already in higher education. Some of the modules you might teach on include the first-year visual narratives module, or second- or third-year modules in art direction or design marketing.

The second role is for a business-focused designer or manager with experience and skills in project management and entrepreneurial business skills gained through work in an agency, running your own agency, elsewhere within the creative industries, and/or teaching these skills in higher education. Some of the modules you might teach on include our second-year creative project management module or our third-year culturepreneurship module.

The Person
You will have a Master’s degree in a related area (or equivalent professional experience), or you may hold a doctorate or be working towards a doctorate in a related field, and bring with you a recognised teaching or learning qualification. If you haven’t already achieved the relevant level of UKPSF teaching recognition (Fellowship level of AdvanceHE), we’ll need you to do so before the end of your probation period and we will offer you assistance in achieving this.

Further Information
We have two part-time (18.5 hours per week) roles available, each with a different skill set as outlined above. We would consider one full-time hire if a candidate has the right experience and knowledge to cover both teaching areas.

The starting salary for this role is £20,565.50 per annum (if 18.5 hours per week), or £41,131 per annum (if full-time - 37 hours per week).

Interviews are expected to take place on Monday, 19 December 2022.

If you would like to have a conversation about this role, please contact the Head of Department, Creative Industries, Dr Steven Sparling.

Bring your true self, expertise, and passion to Kingston where we are continuing to strive to build a university where authentic inclusion and belonging is at its heart. Every one of our staff and students’ identities, backgrounds and diverse experiences makes us who we are - so harness and embrace yours by applying today. We welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities and those with disabilities.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required, this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
