About the role

An exciting vacancy has arisen for the post of Project Coordinator within the new UK Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre (CMIC). Based within the BGS Decarbonisation and Resource Management (DRM) challenge area, the CMIC will support the UK in securing the adequate and timely supply of the minerals and metals it requires to ensure the success of the net zero transition, mitigate risks to national security, deliver economic prosperity and create opportunities for UK businesses in critical mineral supply chains, both domestically and internationally.

The Project Coordinator will provide day-to-day support to the Director and work package leads of the UK CMIC. The UK CMIC operates in a complex environment with a high level of governance and scrutiny. As a result, the Project Coordinator has a key role working with the Centre Director to provide assurance to the Project Executive and Project Board, ensuring project outputs are delivered on time, to enable benefits and outcomes to be realised. Other key duties/responsibilities of the role include:

  • Liaising with BGS Finance and Project Support colleagues on all CMIC projects to ensure that they have access to the information they need in a timely manner, and also that the Director and work package leads are aware of budgetary constraints on their projects (e.g. reprofiling, project extensions, and revenue estimates).
  • Supporting the preparation of presentations to update senior management and the client on the project’s progress.
  • Supporting the tracking of project risks and implementation of mitigation plans.
  • Organising and attending UK and international stakeholder events and meetings.
  • Supporting the timely and compliant procurement of goods and services required for the CMIC.

About you

You will be educated to GCSE/A-level standard including English and Maths. A Business Administration and/or Project Management qualification would be desirable, however, a willingness to undertake these is more important for the role.

We are looking for candidates who are proficient with and comfortable using Microsoft Excel to a high standard as there will be a good amount of spreadsheet work in the role. Experience in using other MS Office products and Outlook will also be required.

Please also refer to the specific essential and desirable skills criteria for this post.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 7th December 2022. Interviews will be held on 15th December 2022.
