We have an exciting opportunity for Research Technician to join our lab based at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ranked the best place in the world to study ophthalmology (CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017).

Research Technician post offers an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in a highly successful and dynamic research and teaching Institute, as well as benefiting from the opportunities afforded by being part of the larger financial and administrative community of the Faculty of Brain Sciences, School of Life and Medical Sciences and University College London (UCL).

About the role

Applications are invited to apply for a Research Technician role to work as part of a multidisciplinary team on a project to explore the molecular mechanisms of retinal degeneration.

The appointed individual will join a collaborative team led by Prof Alison Hardcastle and Prof Mike Cheetham, and will split their time between animal and iPSC models of disease.

The position is funded by Foundation Fighting Blindness and will be until 31st December 2025 in the first instance.

The position will offered be at UCL grade 6 point 21 (£31,131 per annum incl. London Allowance)

About you

The position would suit an ambitious graduate with a background and interest in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, genetics, retinal cell biology, or stem cell derived organoid models of disease.

The successful candidate would ideally have experience of animal model maintenance and characterization and/or iPSC differentiation.

(S)he will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and with established collaborators, to investigate the molecular mechanism of inherited retinal degeneration using iPSC derived 3D retinal organoids and animal models to explore how structural variants cause retinal degeneration.
