Brunel University London, established in 1966 as part of the drive to expand technical education, further knowledge and to cultivate a common culture across citizens, has been offering Law as one of its key subject areas for study since 1969. Supported by a university-wide, award-winning, Professional Development Centre and Careers Service, both the undergraduate and postgraduate law degree programmes at Brunel offer the option of work placements to help students enhance and improve their employability. ‘Law Lives’, a wide-ranging and flexible programme of extra-curricular activities that includes a successful pro-bono clinic, enables students to develop and strengthen transferable skills, qualities and experiences.
Applications are invited for a Student Success Tutor who will be responsible for the provision and delivery of student support across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This is a student-centred role, designed to co-ordinate the varied needs of undergraduate and postgraduate law students studying on our taught programmes. It may include the delivery of workshops and other teaching related activities.
Working alongside the Associate Head of Student Experience and relevant support teams, the primary aim of the role is to improve the overall student experience. This will be achieved by providing timely, relevant and effective student support to help students reach their full potential. In addition to providing support within the current framework, the post holder is expected to identify and communicate best practice as well as opportunities for improvement, which will enhance the student experience.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD, or equivalent qualification, and have experience of dealing directly with both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The post holder must be able to work both independently and as part of a team in order to coordinate and prioritise a range of activities effectively.
Brunel Law School has a long-standing reputation for research, rated excellent in areas that include consumer law, company law, competition law, human rights and international and comparative law. Brunel University London is ranked 20th globally and 4th in the UK by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings' 2023 for its international outlook, reflected by the fact that two members of the law school staff, Professor Javaid Rahaman & Professor Alexandra Xanthaki, are United Nations Special Rapporteurs.
The role offers unparalleled opportunities for personal & professional growth with a formal pathway and career structure in place for those working principally in legal education. Committed to promoting diversity, equality and inclusivity, Brunel Law School is a proud holder of an Athena SWAN Bronze award in recognition of its activities & practices in relation to the Athena Swan Equality Charter.
The position is tenable from 1 May 2023 or as soon as possible afterwards.
The closing date for applications is Friday, 17 February 2023 (Midnight).
Interviews will be held on Monday, 27 March 2023.
