The Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology is seeking to appoint an experienced Department Safety Manager who will provide advice and guidance on matters of health and safety. You will collaborate with senior academic staff, research and technical staff, and students to find practical solutions to complex health and safety issues, being responsive to the needs of the research, and enabling a proportionate response to the management of risk.

You will have excellent communication, organisational and management skills, the ability to interpret health and safety legislation and policy to apply pragmatic solutions to research problems. The ability to communicate confidently with colleagues of varying levels of seniority and external customers will be a key requirement. Ideally you should have experience in working in the higher education sector, as well as implementing Health and Safety requirements within a research or scientific environment. You will be expected to have an innovative approach to problem-solving and demonstrate a hands-on approach to health and safety.
