One of six schools within the University of Cambridge, the School of the Biological Sciences encompasses all of the non-clinical life science departments, institutes and centres - about one fifth of the university population. It is a thriving, friendly and very dynamic community of staff and students, dedicated to the pursuit of world-class research, teaching and learning, and driven by curiosity, quality, collaboration and innovation. It is a wonderfully rich and rewarding environment in which to grow, both personally and professionally.
The school wishes to appoint a Deputy Head of IT to support the Head of IT and Digital Transformation in the design and delivery of a broad portfolio of projects, encompassing infrastructure harmonization, service improvements and cultural change, aligned with the school's IT vision and strategy. This new role will collaborate to establish priorities and to develop and continuously improve IT policies and processes across the school. Other key functions will be to develop and maintain close and productive relationships with the independent IT teams in SBS departments and institutes, to understand and support their activities and to lead on collaborative projects; and to build a sense of community and a culture of excellence.
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, open-minded and a great communicator, with substantial breadth and depth of technical expertise, and experience of managing teams and projects in a higher education or research environment. If you have these attributes and would like to join us on our journey of IT improvement and cultural change, please do apply - we'll be delighted to hear from you.
The administrative base for this role is the School Office in the centre of Cambridge, and the role is compatible with hybrid working.
The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society. We particularly welcome applications from women and candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our IT community.
Interviews will be held in the week commencing 6 March 2023.
