An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal and Governance Team as a Data Compliance and Records Officer. This post forms part of the Legal and Governance team, which is also responsible for student complaints and conduct, support for the Board of Governors, and the provision of Legal Advice for the organisation. 

The role holder will have the opportunity to support the oversight of, and compliance with, Data Protection, Freedom of Information / Environmental Information Regulations and Records Management at the University. You will be the main point of contact for all data compliance related requests, resolving enquiries and issues effectively and within strict deadlines. 

You will provide support and advise to colleagues on a wide range of data compliance matters including investigation of suspected breaches, data disclosure, asset registers, risk assessments and embedding of the data protection principles into the day to day activities of the University.   

You will have a crucial role in championing best practice – this is primarily achieved by developing advice and guidance, delivering training and awareness sessions, and contributing to policy and procedure. 

 To be successful in this role, you will have 

  • Experience of working with or handling confidential information and governance.  
  • An ability to understand and interpret legislation, and problem solve issues as they arise.   
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to develop and sustain effective and collaborative working relationships at all levels, including a network of data stewards. 
  • Good attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Good time management skills; the ability to assess and prioritise competing demands is essential.

This is a full-time permanent post, 37 hours per week. We welcome applications for job sharing. This role is suitable for hybrid working.
