Fixed-term contract for 24 months 1.0 FTE.
Applications are open for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The successful applicant will work closely with the Primary Investigator, Professor Sharifah Sekalala, to provide research support and to deliver project objectives across data collection, analysis, and the dissemination of outputs on a Wellcome Trust funded project, ‘There is no app for that: Regulating the migration of health apps in Sub Saharan Africa,’ held at the School of Law at the University of Warwick.
This is not a remote post. The appointee is expected to be based at the University of Warwick campus. While the School of law will consider some flexible working arrangements, we are looking forward to someone who will contribute in person to the research culture of the department.
This post can take two pathways and we are equally interested in candidates who could fulfil either pathway. The first pathway would be an African philosophical project that would develop a conceptual framework of digital coloniality and explore conceptual frameworks of resistance. The second pathway would involve ethnographic project that focused on the role of regulators in digital health in Sub-Saharan Africa. The second pathway would include field work in Uganda and would involve undertaking interviews, focus groups and attending and taking observational notes. Both pathways will involve working with civil society stakeholders to generate impact.
All applications must be accompanied by CV, a personal statement explaining your interest in the role and highlighting any relevant experience, and a sole-authored writing sample (this could be a chapter of your PhD for instance). Preference will be given to bilingual or multilingual candidates who can speak a local language in any of the three case-study countries (Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa) in addition to English.
Grade
If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top point of level 5 of the University’s salary grade structure (£31,411). Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University’s salary grade structure (£32,348).
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Sharifah Sekalala at sharifah.sekalala@warwick.ac.uk.
Interview Date: TBC.
