This Clinical Randomised Control Trial Field Manager (Trial Field Manager) position will be attached to the Centre for Crime, Offending, Prevention and Engagement (COPE), based in the School of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University. The key duties for this post constitute being the Clinical Trial Field Manager for a five-year research project entitled ‘Randomised Control Trial of SSRI fluoxetine for the treatment of problematic sexual arousal (PSA) in adult males serving a custodial sentence for a sexual offence’. The post is funded by a grant from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
The post holder will be responsible for setting up and managing trial sites for this drug trial in adult males with problematic sexual arousal serving a custodial sentence for a sexual offence across 8+ prison sites. Work will involve finalising the trial protocol, obtaining all regulatory approvals (ethics, R&D and MHRA), helping to set up the Trial Master File, conducting training on problematic sexual arousal, co-ordinating and managing the collection of data, and monitoring all aspects of the trial in accordance with NTU, Swansea Trials Unit (STU), HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and local standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The post holder will be the Trial Field Manager. As such, they will be responsible for co-ordinating data collection across multiple prison-based treatment sites. The postholder will be managing the project’s research associates, PPI research fellow and PPI representatives. They will need to liaise with the Co Investigators, prison governors, healthcare leads, data managers, the National Pharmaceutical Adviser for Health and Justice, and Lead/Research Lead for the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway, and with a range of personnel from the NHS, HMPPS, NTU, STU and other universities.
The trial is being led by NTU but is closely collaborating with STU who have the necessary expertise in drug trial design and management. The postholder will be overseen by the Senior Trial Manager at STU, in addition to the Chief Investigator, Professor Winder, and Co-Chief Investigator, Professor Don Grubin (Newcastle University & NTU). Dr Christine Norman (Co-investigator, NTU) will also provide support throughout the project, as will other co-investigators, as needed. Since the project is prison-based and will require regularly working in one of the treatment sites in England and Wales, the postholder will need to pass prison vetting as a condition of employment. They will also need to be able to travel to each of the treatment sites in England and Wales on a regular basis and be comfortable working alongside people with a sexual conviction.
