Maintenance Operative (multi-skilled)

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Operative to join our busy team serving a varied portfolio of College properties, who will assist with monitoring and maintaining a range of building services. The Operative will promote a culture of safe working practices across the College and duties range from reactive maintenance and repairs to carrying out planned preventative maintenance and minor project work.

If you have general maintenance experience alongside skills in a trade and have worked within a range of buildings, we would welcome your application. 

Reporting to the Head of Buildings and Maintenance, the post holder will work closely with all College departments and Maintenance team colleagues to provide a proactive and quality service to stakeholders.

Main responsibilities:

  • Ensure all work carried out within the College premises conforms to current regulatory requirements. Be responsible for reporting any non-conformances for corrective action.
  • Ensure all work is carried out with due regard to the Health and Safety at Work Act, the College Health & Safety Policy and protocols and all relevant current Health and Safety legislation.
  • Undertake checks and testing in accordance with relevant legislation, managing a schedule and keeping appropriate records to ensure the College is compliant.
  • Monitor and keep up to date, the maintenance ticketing system. Ensure all tickets are assigned the correct priority and that works are undertaken within the specified time frames.
  • To collaborate with other College Maintenance Operatives and trades to ensure work is completed to the correct quality standard.
  • To assist contractors and other trades as and when required and as directed.
  • To ensure that all equipment for which the post-holder has responsibility, is securely stored and properly maintained.
  • Working with other trades to perform routine maintenance as and when required. This may involve working at height, manual handling, the removal of rubbish and similar waste and moving of furniture.

Contractual information

This is a permanent position, subject to the completion of a successful 3-month probation period.

The FTE salary will be £25,500 - £27,500 pa, depending on skills and experience.

The full time hours are 37.5 hours a week.  Some flexibility around working hours may be required in order to meet the needs of the department. Some weekend work may be expected and dealing with emergencies on a call out basis will be required from time to time.
