Job description

King’s College London will be host to an exciting new international network between 2022-2025. Bringing together leaders in quantum technologies from around the world, the network will run conferences, meetings, and scientific missions, to share knowledge with each other and the industry.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative network administrator to assist the network chair, Dr. James Millen, and his Management Committee in organizing events, managing communications & social media, and handling a budget. There is significant scope for you to make input to working practices and communications strategies.

Within King’s, you will be part of the Department of Physics, which belongs to the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES). Supporting our staff is important to us and we offer a range of provisions including flexible working, caring support, and training opportunities. The university is making a significant investment in the Faculty and both student and staff numbers are growing. Our staff come from over 45 countries and around 56% of our students are from outside the UK.

The study of Physics at King's dates back to the foundation of the College in 1829. The Department is currently undergoing significant growth with substantial investment in new appointments, research infrastructure and laboratory space refurbishment. We offer a range of BSc (three-year) and MSci (four-year) undergraduate courses as well as MSc and PhD programmes.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 24 months

This is a part-time post - 60% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • To actively engage with internal and external partners in the planning and organization of events, workshops, conferences, and meetings.
  • To manage communications via a mailing list and social media accounts.
  • To assist in the design of a network website and regular newsletters.
  • Working proactively with Faculty Research Support Team and central College teams, including RMID, Finance, and HR, to support the management of allocated budgets and resources, and control all related expenditures to ensure delivery of targets/objectives within budget ensuring compliance with funder terms and conditions.
  • Collate, maintain, and update information and documents relevant to activities within the activity.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

  1. Proven ability to work in a team and to deadlines.
  2. A creative and enthusiastic approach to given tasks.
  3. Clear communication skills.
  4. The ability to effectively manage and organize information coming from a range of sources

(i.e., network members, industry partners, professional services, external organizations)

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience in managing mailing lists and social media accounts.
  2. Basic design skills to be employed on the network website and newsletters.
  3. Event planning & organization.
  4. Handling a budget.
