We are looking for a Professorial Group Leader in Reproductive Biotechnologies.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking to appoint a highly-established researcher to lead an independent research programme seeking to develop pioneering biotechnological interventions in agricultural livestock. We expect the successful candidate to have an internationally-leading research profile, evidenced by substantial success in acquiring independent funding as principal investigator, matched to a strong track record of publishing in high-impact journals. We are particularly interested in candidates who routinely exploit cloning, pluripotent or other stem cells, and/or in vitro gametogenesis, and who would benefit from the availability of state-of-the-art technology platforms and large animal facilities at The Roslin Institute including the newly established Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF).

The position, which would complement existing expertise in the above areas in the Roslin Institute, offers the opportunity to steer the direction of animal biotechnology research at the University of Edinburgh. We have an ambitious strategic vision for the future, with Reproductive Biotechnology being one of the core pillars within our Agri-tech strategy. The Roslin Institute through strategic funding by the BBSRC will support this position with a core scientist post.

The Institute seeks to make one senior appointment at Chair level in the broad area of Reproductive Biotechnologies, but enquires from individuals at an earlier career stage are encouraged to discuss future recruitment opportunities.

Prospective candidates wishing to discuss the appointment or visit the institute should, in the first instance, contact:

Professor Bruce Whitelaw, Director of the Roslin Institute, telephone 0131 651 9181; E-mail Bruce.Whitelaw@roslin.ed.ac.uk  or

Prof Mike McGrew E-mail: mike.mcgrew@roslin.ed.ac.uk, or

Prof Xavier Donadeu Xavier.donadeu@rps;om/ed/ac/uk

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • We are seeking candidates with a proven track record in quantitative genetics and genomics, with industry-related experience as a bonus.
  • We are looking for a team player, with a strong record of sustained publication of international quality, and the drive and potential to make an outstanding contribution to the research activities and intellectual life of the University of Edinburgh, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and the Roslin Institute.
  • We will look for evidence of successful interaction with multidisciplinary research groups, external funding applications and a strategy to grow this area of research further.
  • Additionally, we seek someone that is enthusiastic about graduate education and interested in leading the development of research programmes and academic administration.
