Leeds Beckett University is a modern professional university with ambition. Within the School of Health, we have an exciting opportunity to join a committed team with a long-established history of excellence in delivering innovative teaching in Health and Safety.

We successfully deliver a portfolio of Health & Safety courses, across the Undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum and are proud of our creative and inspiring teaching that continues to gain excellent NSS feedback from our students. Longstanding accreditation with IOSH, established connections with employers and high graduate employability are key to our delivery. Our franchise courses and external contracts with employers also offer collaborations that provide important opportunities to work with UK and international agencies. The integration of work- based scenarios across the curriculum is core, alongside use of state of art laboratories that enhance the applied nature of teaching and research delivery.

To underpin our delivery, we are seeking a Lecturer or Senior lecturer in health and safety management. In this role you will be expected to contribute to curriculum development and to the wider academic, scholarly and professional requirements of the School and University. Your commitment to maintaining your own continuing professional development is important, whilst playing an active role in the teaching, development and administration of Health and Safety programmes.

We welcome applicants for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer role (dependent on qualifications and experience) who have sector experience within Health and Safety. They should hold a relevant PhD (or Postgraduate qualifications with suitable professional standing) and be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of research and teaching experience in higher education. We are particularly interested in individuals with:

  • Registered (or evidence of working towards) IOSH status
  • A track record of and a passion for high quality teaching within Health and Safety
  • Enthusiasm, initiative and a team ethic
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A highly organised and flexible approach to work

In addition, applicants should demonstrate engagement with external partners, professional networks, be expected to contribute to the research and enterprise of the School and to maintain their professional development.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr James Woodall (Head of Subject - Health, Nutrition and Environment) via email: j.woodall@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Working here means you’ll also have access to a wide range of benefits including our generous pension schemes, excellent holiday entitlements, flexible working, reduced study fees, subsidised fitness facilities and a lot more.

We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under-represented at this level of post. All appointments will be based on merit.
