We are currently looking for a Deputy Bio facility Manager (maternity cover) within UBS.
Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced Chief Animal Technician/Deputy Manager to be part of a hard working team in a busy biomedical services facility situated in South Cambridge.
The successful candidate will assist the Biofacility Manager with the day to day management of the facility and deputise in their absence. As Deputy Manager, the successful candidate will co-ordinate the animal husbandry work of the facility. You will assist the Biofacility Manager with the recruitment, training and assessment of new staff with in-house policies and procedures as well as working to Home Office regulations and performance management. You will manage both licenced and unlicensed scientific procedures along with daily husbandry and maintenance to assist the technicians as required.
You are responsible for the maintenance of all necessary records, referring any issues and concerns to the Biofacility Manager as necessary. This will include the use of IVC technology, supervision of day to day husbandry, breeding, maintenance and genotyping of genetically modified animals. Checking and recording environmental parameters and general condition of animals will be required on a daily basis.
The role holder will act as Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO) for an area of the facility, and shall be the primary point of contact for the Project and Personal Licence holders, providing advice and guidance regarding Home Office regulations, reviewing study plans to ensure appropriate allocation of resources and compliance.
You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with experience supervising or managing staff. You will have IAT Level 3 or equivalent, Home Office Licence modules A - C and will be a Personal Licence holder. In depth experience of working within a biofacility is essential, as are excellent communication skills. You must be able to use a computerised data management system and have previous experience working in a supervisory / team leader role. Knowledge of relevant Home Office, and Health and Safety legislation is important, as is knowledge and experience in the principals of aseptic surgery and specialised breeding techniques.
Please note, this role is a maternity cover for up to 12 months from June or return of the post holder, whichever is easiest.
