The Sheffield School of Architecture is making a strong commitment to strengthening its research profile, leadership, and learning and teaching through investment in key areas addressing environmental and social sustainability challenges, specifically those faced by the cities of the future.
As part of this investment we are seeking to appoint a Research Associate who will work with Professor Renata Tyszczuk in support of the Culture and Climate Change initiative and the School of Architecture’s research on global environmental change issues.
You will have a strong research track record of high-quality publications and other forms of innovation at an international level, evidence of external funding capture, and the ability to foster and support the research of colleagues. You will also have the capacity to develop and lead successful research projects and teams.
As a future member of one of the School’s research clusters (Design, Engagement and Practice; People, Environments and Performance; Space, Cultures and Politics) you will be working closely with colleagues to develop the international research standing of the School. This will include making presentations to the group, the School and beyond and other dissemination activities, as well as generating significant research impact through your work. A willingness to engage in knowledge exchange with non-academic organisations to develop research and impact is also a priority.
You will possess a PhD, or equivalent relevant experience, ideally in a relevant built environment or cognate discipline, such as geography, landscape or urban studies and have an interest in interdisciplinary research that addresses environmental issues. We are seeking applicants who have experience of exploring the boundaries of architectural knowledges, the futures of architecture, urban design and creative practice, and responses to the climate crisis. We are particularly interested in applicants that can demonstrate a commitment to creative, intellectual and action-oriented endeavours that will help bring about an equitable planetary future.
This post is fixed term.
