Aston Business School is triple accredited (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA). In the 2021 REF almost four-fifths of Aston University’s research is either ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent. Aston has excellent teaching (awarded a Gold rating in the 2016/17 TEF) and business engagement (awarded the Small Business Charter Gold Award). In 2020 we were the Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year. We were again shortlisted for the University of the Year in 2021-22.
The Marketing and Strategy (M&S) Department is one of fewer than 10 (globally) and two (UK) departments to combine our marketing and our strategy faculties. Housed within Aston Business School, the department has spent over 40 years cultivating a reputation as an internationally recognised centre of excellence for scholarly research, learning, and teaching in marketing and strategy.
We are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated individual to join our team and our specific strategy areas of interest are in the micro-activities of strategy work. Rather than seeing strategy as something that organisations have, we conceptualise it as something that people do through everyday activity – with tools, materials and each other. Joining our team will enable you to develop your research profile and aspirations in a rich and thriving research culture alongside colleagues with impressive publication records, who are involved in the editing of leading journals and who regularly win competitive grants. We support participation in international conferences and supervision of research students. We welcome applications from those who will increase the research capacity of the department and contribute to the Department’s teaching and enterprise activities.
You should possess a good first degree, a doctorate in a relevant discipline, be establishing a research profile with a growing body of internationally excellent publications in Strategy and Innovation-related journals, as well as a developing international network. You must have experience in securing and leading funding from different sources which deliver impact, and in undertaking effective doctoral research supervision. You should have an effective and innovative teaching practice at all levels, and at least Fellowship of the HEA (or equivalent).
