About The Role
Falmouth University's ambitious 2030 Strategy, ‘Doing it for Real’, is designed to deliver yet further growth in our student numbers and income through portfolio diversification, innovation, research and commercial ventures. It will establish Falmouth as the market leader for creative industries and entrepreneurship education over the next decade, capitalising on our considerable assets in innovation-led research and business incubation.
We are now seeking a connected and ambitious Course Leader for MA Communication Design; a transformative and critically driven intensive studio-based course located at our Falmouth Campus.
The one-year full time course enables students to develop a critical and individual voice within the field of communication design, combining research and professional practice in the development of their learning and investigation into the personal constructs and boundaries of their future design career.
A range of exciting transdisciplinary provocateurs and teaching staff support this postgraduate experience, and your leadership, creativity and vision will help curate an innovative and globally significant curriculum across the year. This is an exciting and innovative facet of the role, enabling the core genres of practice to be taught, but also developing research through design that addresses the social, political and environmental urgencies of our time.
Day to day, you will manage the planning, development and delivery of the course, ensuring a positive student experience and will oversee quality assurance for the course and internal course and module reviews. Alongside this you will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, with the ability to develop strong links with industry and cultural partners both within design but also the wider arts, research and business fields.
About You
The successful candidate will have experience in leading and managing teams and creative projects, as well as significant experience teaching in academia at HE level and working within the creative industries. You will have the proven ability to lead people, and inspire students, through innovative pedagogies, whilst bringing specialist insight, professional and research expertise to the broad field that is communication design today.
You must be highly organised and able to manage your time efficiently and you will be able to demonstrate evidence of people management and leadership.
You will have a good understanding of the historical, critical and theoretical constructs of the subject, and how it informs and challenges the making of design work and research in the area. This should also include a technical understanding and awareness of both analogue and digital crafts in the realisation of work across multi-platforms, which may include some or all, across 2d, 3d, film, immersive and environmental design media.
Your understanding of current trends and wider contexts in design and education will help you position the course accurately and aid development which will also be supported and informed by your own networks and connections.
Overall, as a practitioner and educator, you will have a strong and relevant body of work with an outstanding track record of achievement in both industry and HE and be one who can work independently and also part of a team.
This is a permanent, 21 hours a week and normally from Monday-Wednesday.
The closing date for this position is Monday 10 April 2023.
Interviews are hoping to be held remotely by Microsoft Teams on Friday 21st April 2023.
