The opportunity

Following a multimillion-pound investment programme, Wimbledon College of Arts is now progressing with its ambition to become a world leading centre for performance. To fully activate our new performance spaces, we are expanding our staff team and are now seeking to appoint a Studio Manager to provide specialist technical knowledge, support and guidance to Acting and Performance students.

The School of Performance at Wimbledon provides a single campus experience where Acting and Performance and Performance Design and Technologies are delivered together. With live performance as its primary focus, the school provides a collaborative and technically rich environment where ‘performance’ can be fully explored. 

As the Studio Manager, you will oversee the safe operation and appropriate resource management of the Acting and Performance Studios, including supervision of reporting technical staff and any temporary studio assistants or alumni fellows. You will help in the creation, operation, and utilisation of practices in live, recorded, and digital performance environments, this may include enabling the live-streaming of performances as well as designing and managing multi-modal and mixed-media technical theatre set-ups. You’ll also carry out broad theatre technician duties as part of a technical team, such as technical theatre support; lighting and sound, managing, editing, and mixing music and video footage for performances across artistic, academic, live performance and digital production work.

About you 

Qualified to BA level in Art, Design or Performance or with equivalent industry level qualifications or certification, you will have strong proven experience of theatre and performance production process and practices in a professional/ industry/ HE environment. This should include digital performance practice, sound, lighting design and/or live broadcast streaming video and projection, as well as excellent working knowledge of IT including projector set-up, PowerPoint presentations, and specific theatre/film/tv industry operating and design programmes.

Demonstrable practical knowledge of H&S, COSHH, Risk Assessment and safe working practices are also essential.
