Permanent full time position (36.5 hours per week), rota position
The University of Warwick’s world-class reputation for learning is reflected in the quality and diversity of its award-winning grounds and gardens. Our sports pitches are maintained at international competition standards to attract customers including the Football Association, Rugby Football Union and, more recently, the Commonwealth Games Association.
Taking on a supervisory role within our grounds team, you’ll lead a small team of staff, plan work schedules and allocate tasks, and liaise with contractors. You and your team will prepare and maintain grass and artificial pitches, undertaking tasks such as mowing, scarifying, line painting and strimming to the highest standards. You’ll also be responsible for the daily maintenance and safe use of a range of machinery, equipment, tools and chemicals.
You will have a passion for managing sports pitches and you’re likely to have a relevant qualification in Sports Turf Management and/or substantial experience of maintaining diverse outdoor sports pitches and surfaces. Experience of coaching and supervising others is important, as are good organisational skills. Knowledge of basic machinery repairs and servicing knowledge would be helpful, as would proven proficiency in the use of compact tractors and chainsaws. We often work to short deadlines, so a collaborative approach and strong communication skills will be essential to your success.
The University of Warwick is located on the edge of Coventry, near the Warwickshire border, with easy access to road and rail networks. Our campus combines a vibrant feel with its cafes, retail outlets and entertainment at the Arts Centre, with tranquillity and calm that can be found amongst its green spaces, lakes and wildlife.
Our workforce spans around 7,000 staff from diverse backgrounds. Inclusion is one of the four strategic priorities which underpin everything that we do in our Research and Education offerings as we aspire to remove economic, social and cultural barriers that have prevented talented people from working and studying at Warwick.
We offer a variety of benefits including generous annual leave allowance (including four days at Christmas), flexible working, training and development, and family friendly leave.
We also offer discounted membership to the Sports hub, a bespoke sports & wellness hub with amazing facilities and its own climbing centre, as well as access to an Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 confidential support delivering guidance and expert advice), free eye test and discounted membership with Costco.
