pplications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics.
The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 2.5 years, with an opportunity to extend subject to funding.
The place of work will be at the Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Rd, Oxford, OX1 3RH or at CERN, Geneva Switzerland.
A large new dataset from BESIII coupled with the upcoming LHCb Run3 data give rise to an unparalleled opportunity to make precision measurements of the CKM angle gamma.
The successful candidate will take a leading role in the data analysis from these two experiments, taking advantage of the various synergies and subsequently publish their research.
This will involve adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques; contributing ideas for new research projects; collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally presenting papers and posters; representing the research group at external meetings & seminars and carrying out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in experimental physics or a related field and ideally possess a strong background in flavour physics.
Previous experience of the LHCb and/or BESIII experiments will be an advantage.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
Informal enquiries about this post may be made to Sneha Malde, sneha.malde@physics.ox.ac.uk or Guy Wilkinson, guy.wilkinson@physics.ox.ac.uk.
