An opportunity has arisen to become part of the Campus Safety Team which supports our students, staff members and visitors. In this role, you will be the ‘face’ of the University, dealing with everything from a person having mental health crisis to disciplinary concerns, ensuring the campus is a safe environment for everyone, assisting in running a busy CCTV and control room, and offering support and advice.
Reporting into your Campus Manager, your role will mean you deal with both staff and students on a day-to-day basis. The campus safety team is often the first place our students turn to when they are in distress - this can mean that if a student has been attacked, harassed, or abused, they will come to security for welfare and support. We therefore welcome applications from those who have a keen interest in creating a warm and welcoming environment for our students and understand that every shift will come with new challenges. The role is varied by nature and a level of discretion and empathy will be needed to ensure that we are always doing what's best for our community.
As a member of Campus Safety Team you will receive a comprehensive training plan to ensure that you are well equipped to deal with handling the common student and staff enquiries.
The University of Surrey is amongst the highest achieving universities in the United Kingdom, named as University of the Year for Employment 2021. Surrey is one of only a few institutions to significantly rise in the National Student Survey tables following an unprecedented 18 months for the sector. We are proud of our achievements, and you will be joining us at the start of an exciting journey to further position Surrey as a leading institution for Student Experience.
Please be aware the working hours for this role are shift work and the service does run 24/7: typically your working pattern would be two day shifts (06:30 - 18:30), followed by two night shifts (18:30 - 06:30), and then four days off. Some shifts may be eligible for additional payment on top of your base salary.
Due to the nature of the work an enhanced DBS check is required for this position (at offer stage).
