About us

CLOSER, the home of longitudinal research, is the interdisciplinary partnership of leading social and biomedical longitudinal population studies, the UK Data Service and The British Library.

About the role

As a Professor in SRI you will be expected to conduct and publish outstanding substantive academic research, including with longitudinal data, and to develop a network of academic collaborators publishing scientific findings from the CLOSER partnership studies. You will be a core member of the SRI Institute Leadership Team responsible for the academic and strategic direction of the department and contribute to its intellectual life.

The Director of CLOSER will lead the direction of CLOSER and manage the specialist team responsible for its delivery. The post provides an opportunity for you to shape CLOSER’s work in providing resources and insights for the data, research, and policy communities, and lead the team in securing further funding for CLOSER beyond 2024.

The role is a permanent UCL professorship with 0.5 FTE of the role, up until 30 September 2024, as the Director of CLOSER and 0.5 FTE as a Professor in SRI. If CLOSER is funded beyond 30 September 2024 this arrangement will continue. If CLOSER’s funding was to end, the role would continue as a 1 FTE Professor in SRI. We also welcome applications from those who are interested in solely taking up the Director of CLOSER role (0.5 FTE) on a fixed-term basis until 30 September 2024.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 2nd May 2023.

About you

With proven leadership experience indicating suitability for leading a multi-disciplinary programme, you will have experience of managing complex stakeholder environments and relationships, a record of success in securing external research funding, and be an effective leader of people.

If you have any queries about the Professor aspect of the role, please contact Toby Seddon (). If you have any queries about the Director of CLOSER aspect of the role, please contact Jon Tebbett ().

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.
