Hours: Full time 35 hours per week (1 FTE)
Contract basis: Open Ended
Contract type: Teaching and Scholarship OR Teaching and Research
It is an exciting time to join the Business School at Queen Margaret University. We are in the process of redeveloping all our undergraduate degree programmes and plan to offer several new specialist routes, including business analytics and human resource management. The Business School made a submission to REF for the first time in 2021 and we are now reflecting on how to build on that work to develop a reputation for business research that aligns with the university-wide commitment to social justice. The Business School at Queen Margaret University has a real focus on the student experience and developing opportunities for applied and authentic learning. Small year groups mean we get to know our students and can work collaboratively with them to develop and enhance our programmes.
We are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Management with a specific focus on developing and enhancing the work-based learning opportunities in our programmes. The successful candidate will be passionate about work-based learning and will be committed to designing and delivering excellent work-based learning programmes, modules and opportunities for our students. In addition, and depending on contract type, the role holder will pursue innovative research and/or scholarship on work-based learning pedagogic approaches and/or in a specific management discipline (e.g., leadership, supply chain/ operations management, business analytics, digital marketing).
You will be a committed educator, supervisor and outstanding communicator and will be expected to contribute to a range of teaching, research and/or scholarship, pastoral and administrative activities across the division. You will be passionate about the student experience and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice with a particular focus on work-based learning. While able to teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes it is likely that much of your role will be focused on our BA (Hons) Graduate Apprenticeship and the work experience/internship/placement modules that are offered across our other degree programmes. You will also be expected to take a lead on developing and growing our relationships with relevant businesses and employers.
You will have or be willing to study for a relevant teaching qualification and exhibit a clear ability to work collegiately with others to deliver set objectives. You will have a postgraduate degree in a relevant business subject area and if you wish to be appointed on a teaching and research contract, pre-existing high quality academic publications and a plan for how you intend to develop your research in the future. You must already have a track record of working effectively with industry partners and be prepared to forge new links across the city, region and beyond to develop opportunities in student education, placements, knowledge exchange, consultancy and/or impact.
All applicants should have expertise and experience in relation to work-based learning within a business context. In particular, we welcome applications from individuals who can offer additional expertise in any of the following subject areas: leadership, supply chain/operations management, business analytics, or digital marketing.
While applicants will be able to include a CV with their applications, the application form should be completed in full and answers should explicitly make clear how applicants meet all of the criteria marked on the job description as being assessed via the initial application.
Candidates should be free to take up this post from 1st August 2023 at the latest.
