Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed-term position at the level of Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Galway. The successful candidate will be part of the project team on a project entitled “Scale-ups and Scaling”. This position is available from September 2023 with a flexible start date and is of one-year duration, with the possibility of extension, subject to funding.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will work in a team under the supervision of Professors Esther Tippmann and Jonathan Levie. The project will focus on scaling businesses, especially on some of the key drivers of scaling / organisation performance. Through a quantitative study, the project will develop and test a model on the features of the top management team as a driver of scaling / organization performance. The project will assist in the establishment of theoretical knowledge on scale-ups and scaling and the identification of suitable executive education supports.  

Duties:

  • Undertake and prepare literature reviews to formulate a robust theoretical model
  • Empirical data collection and analysis using appropriate quantitative techniques
  • Contribute to the writing of research papers for publication in top-level outlets in the fields of entrepreneurship and management
  • Develop and support the delivery of executive education
  • Actively participate in new funding opportunities, such as the development and writing of proposals
  • Liaise with stakeholders in the local, national and international ecosystem relating to scaling and strengthen those relationships
  • Attend national and international meetings and conferences
  • Support the hosting of events, seminars, and workshops related to the Centre for Entrepreneurial Growth and Scaling
  • Support the social media and website activities related to the Centre for Entrepreneurial Growth and Scaling
  • Contribute to the management and reporting requirements of the project.

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in Business (entrepreneurship/strategy/management) or other related disciplines
  • Record of publication in entrepreneurship, strategy or other relevant disciplines
  • Evidence of excellent research skills, including of quantitative research approaches
  • Evidence of excellent communications skills, including with senior executives/firm founders
  • Strong coordination, project management and teamwork skills
  • Be a motivated self-starter, as well as being focused and exacting in work ethic.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience with advanced quantitative analysis techniques
  • Good record of participation in the academic community
  • Good knowledge exchange skills targeting non-academic audiences (industry-focused)
  • Experience with content creation for professional social media and websites

Salary Scale: €41,209 - €43,699 per annum.   Start date: from September 2023 (flexible).
