We are offering a number of exciting secondment opportunities (3 in total) for midwives and practice educators currently working in North Central London (NCL) to join our team of Midwifery Academics in supporting student learning – both in practice and in a University setting.

You will get the opportunity to work with our teams, developing skills for use with educational technologies in the classroom, online and in our skills labs, to support the development of the next generations of midwives. You will work with Programme Leads, students and our skills team for the equivalent of three days each week (0.6fte). The remainder of your time will be spent working within your employing Trust in a clinical or education post.

Salary will be matched (at no more than the equivalence of Step Point 2 of NHS Band 6, including inner London Weighting) and successful candidates’ terms and conditions of employment will remain with their seconding Trust.

You need to have excellent communication and team working skills, be able to engage with a variety of stakeholders, and demonstrate positive professional and educational role modelling. You need to bring creative ideas and clinical expertise to support the development of our midwifery students in the classroom, skills lab or practice setting. You will need to adapt quickly to using a variety of digital and other learning technologies and be able to participate in change at pace. You need to have a passion for supporting and developing yourself and others.

This is an exciting development opportunity for existing midwifery educators or registered midwives at senior Band 5 or Band 6 levels (up to Step Point 2 on the Band 6 scale), wishing to pursue a career in midwifery education. Career development support and mentoring will be offered as part of your career development plan.

It is highly recommended that prior to application, candidates discuss and seek support to take up this opportunity with their current line managers, and upload as part of their application – confirmation that they have already secured agreement for the secondment. Applications will be also be accepted from candidates seeking to work only part-time (0.6fte) and who are not currently working with a Trust.

An enhanced DBS check will be required for this post.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and requires a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate. You are therefore required to disclose details of any criminal record. ALL criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings, even if they would otherwise be regarded as spent under this Act must be disclosed, as well as any other information that may have a bearing on your suitability for the post, including pending prosecutions.
