Duties of the Role
The University of Essex is seeking a Networks and Telecoms Technician to join their Network and Telephony team on a 12-month fixed term, full-time contract (part-time hours will be considered at a minimum of 0.5 FTE).
This is a great opportunity to join a highly skilled team on the active frontline supporting vital teaching, meeting and conference spaces as well as commercial events across our three campuses Colchester, Loughton and Southend.
With over 10,000 network points, more than 4,500 telephone extensions and 650 WiFi access points, the successful applicant will be involved in a full range of networks and telecoms tasks from configuration and deployment to maintenance and repair of essential network and telecoms equipment.
Critical duties will also include supporting high profile University wide projects and events such as Graduation, Registration and Clearing and the deployment of networks and telecoms equipment into new University buildings.

The post is based in the DITS offices at the Colchester campus. Travel to other campuses at Southend and Loughton will be required on a regular basis.
Qualifications and Skills required
The successful applicant, with a relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience, will have excellent communication, organisational, administrative and IT skills and will be able to confidently work autonomously or as part of a team.
You will have the ability to drive the delivery of new services and technologies while remaining resolutely customer focused. In addition, you will have the confidence to flag issues and to discuss solutions with the Networks Manager and Senior Technician (Telephony) as appropriate.
