This EPSRC funded post-doctoral position at the University of Reading in the research group of Wayne Hayes targets the discovery of polymer materials for deposition via additive manufacturing techniques to create new biomedical devices.

The project will provide excellent training in the field of polymeric materials – it will involve organic and polymer synthesis, characterization of new materials (using techniques such as NMR, IR, UV spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, GPC and thermal analysis (DSC, TGA) in addition to physical assessment of the polymeric materials via rheology and tensometry.

The project will involve collaboration with the research group of Professor Ricky Wildman in the Centre for Additive Manufacturing at the University of Nottingham. In addition to gaining invaluable scientific technical skills, this project will also develop independent research skills by providing training on the use of databases (such as Web of Knowledge, Scifinder Scholar, Reaxsys), presentation skills and writing reports. The post is for 24-months.

You will have:

  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Synthesis or Organic-based materials
  • BSc (Hons) or MChem in Chemistry or closely related subject
  • Experience of property assessment (rheology, tensile testing) of organic-based materials
