Funded by the Health Foundation, The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute) has a remit to advance research into how to improve the quality and safety of patient care. The institute hosts around 60 staff consisting of academics, operational and communications staff and visiting research fellows. THIS Institute's portfolio of studies ranges from small-scale qualitative work through to large-scale national studies, with a common goal of providing clarity on what works in improving healthcare, what doesn't, and why. Our highly inclusive approach combines academic rigour with the real concerns of patients and healthcare staff. We bring people together to understand problems, create shared visions, co-design solutions, and evaluate them.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and flexible Research Data and Information Governance Coordinator to oversee effective data management for all our studies. You will join our research support team, working across our portfolio of studies and coordinating with all teams involved in the design and delivery of our studies. This will include working with researchers, Thiscovery (our online research and engagement platform), contracts, operations, finance, and communications and engagement, to ensure best practice in data management is embedded across all activities.
Reporting to the Research Programme Manager, you will work closely with Principal Investigators and researchers, to understand the research and provide guidance on how qualitative and quantitative data should be managed to comply with research governance and ethics requirements. You will advise researchers on data management plans and data housekeeping, and review study documentation to make sure that descriptions for how data will be managed are accurate and consistent. You will provide tailored advice and support on questions relating to research data management (e.g. funder policies, ethical data sharing, and managing sensitive data), and where needed, provide training on data management for new staff. You will develop and implement operational procedures for effective data management, including a process for managing the data deletion schedules for all our studies to make sure that data is deleted as and when required from multiple storage locations. You will also support the institute's Contracts Manager in setting up data sharing agreements between THIS Institute and external collaborators as required.
We are looking for someone with experience of managing research data, ideally both quantitative and qualitative data, who is able to provide clear and accurate guidance to others on all data management requirements. You will have a good working knowledge of data protection (e.g. GDPR and Caldicott) and research governance and be able to apply this knowledge when assessing the data management needs of our projects. You will be able to work accurately, with strong coordination skills and exceptional attention to detail. You will have experience in an academic research or healthcare environment, and ideally have an understanding of healthcare improvement.
