About Us

Transforming lives through excellent education

London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.

Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.

You will be joining the highly successful Initial Teacher Education (ITE) team, working with local schools to train the Secondary English teachers of the future and to inspire the next generation of children in London schools.

About the Post

A new part-time permanent opportunity has arisen to develop the School’s highly respected Secondary English PGCE pathways as its Course Leader.

This role will suit a Secondary English specialist, who will also be able to develop the training course, specific English teaching materials and development of further Secondary English school partnerships.

You will teach and assess across the English provision, taking on the role of link tutor to a group of trainees and working with school-based mentors in our partner schools. You will also make a contribution to the wider curriculum across the ITE programme and to compliance activity.

You will be a highly experienced secondary school English teacher with QTS, able to supervise trainees in school placements, undertake assessment observations and to monitor their progress in person and online.

You will have experience of mentoring trainees and/or leading others and considerable, wide-ranging experience in the Secondary English classroom.

You will have a strong commitment to the University’s values, mission and strategic plan; a “coaching and developing” approach when dealing with colleagues and students; and working collegially; valuing the contribution of others and sharing knowledge and expertise.

We recognise the positive value of diversity and difference and we strongly welcome job applications from people of all backgrounds. We are keen to ensure the teaching workforce is more representative of London's diverse population.

This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing Date: 13 April 2023

Interviews due to be held on 27 April 2023
